Using Facebook Profiles for WordPress Comments

Facebook integration for WordPress is one of the most common social network feature requests I see from individuals as well as companies. With so many people remaining logged in to Facebook even when they are browsing other areas of the internet, the ability to leave comments without an additional login is very appealing to many people. Additionally, the use of a Facebook profile gives the WordPress site owner an excellent way to reach out to new visitors on their home turf.

Cross-site cooperation like this is nothing new, but can be daunting even for folks that are old hands at WordPress and account management. Luckily, as with many challenges, WordPress is ready with a Plugin.

Enter Facebook Comments for WordPress. This plugin integrates the Facebook commenting system (both old and new) directly into your self-hosted WordPress site. As long as a visitor is logged into Facebook they’ll be able to participate in and contribute to comments-enabled parts of your WordPress site.

Facebook Comments for WordPress is a rich implementation with a variety of configuration options. Including nice touches like comment styling and a recent comments function. Advanced users can even fine tune placement in their themes.

The author has done a great job of building a FAQ and list of known issues and the WordPress Repository page hosts a useful and active forum for the plugin.

Special thanks to Melissa for inspiring this article with her question asking for a plugin that would allow Facebook comment integration with WordPress.

I'm the front-man of It's WordPress. I come from a diverse array of backgrounds, enjoying the opportunity to expand my knowledge base and skill set by re-inventing myself. I enjoy environments that focus on emerging information, technology and concepts. I put on the technical hat in my early 20s and never really looked back. I'm love technology and the internet, as well as the outdoors and avidly hike, kayak and camp every chance I get.
